ADRA and MCB – A Partnership for Access to Safe Water

As part of its partnership with the private sector, ADRA Madagascar is collaborating with the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) to implement the MCB WASH South-East project in nine (9) communities (Fokontany) within the Farafangana district, in southeastern Madagascar. This project is part of ADRA initiatives to respond to the challenge of safe water supply in the country.

The project’s objective is to improve the health and well-being of rural communities in Madagascar by providing them with sustainable and equitable access to clean water, promoting proper sanitation and hygiene practices, and strengthening community-based water resource management. The project aims to construct or rehabilitate nine (9) borehole systems to provide access to clean water and promote proper sanitation and hygiene practices for 800 target households.

The project will construct five (5) public sanitation facilities for communities and/or schools to complement household efforts in improving sanitation. The project’s ultimate goal is to provide sustainable and equitable access to WASH facilities for 4,000 people.

« KM du Cœur » Project

MCB supports students in public schools under the “KM du Cœur” Project, ensuring they have access to clean water for proper hygiene and sanitation practices. Launched in 2022, the KM du Cœur Project is a trail run fundraiser organized by MCB Bank and its partners, targeting public schools along the National Road 2 (RN2). Raised funds are donated to ADRA for water, sanitation, and hygiene initiatives.

So far, the project has successfully constructed or rehabilitated five (5) potable water supply systems, providing 918 students with access to clean water and promoting proper hygiene and sanitation practices.

Additionally, the project has supported five (5) public schools, complementing ADRA’s efforts in distributing school meals in three (3) school canteens to improve children’s nutrition and academic performance.
