Women Beekeepers as Drivers of Positive Change in Madagascar
The Women Beekeepers as Drivers of Positive Change in Madagascar project is a 36-month initiative (2026–2028) implemented by ADRA Madagascar in partnership with ADRA Slovenia, with financial support from the Government of the Republic of Slovenia through its Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.
The project is implemented in the Manakara District, Fitovinany Region, and aims to empower 300 women and young people by promoting sustainable livelihoods, strengthening resilience to climate change, and fostering inclusive economic development.

Project Goal
To empower women and youth as drivers of sustainable economic development through entrepreneurship, climate-smart agriculture, and sustainable beekeeping.
Specific Objectives
- Strengthen women’s entrepreneurship and leadership.
- Increase the adoption of climate-resilient agricultural practices.
- Promote sustainable beekeeping as a profitable and environmentally friendly livelihood.
- Improve household incomes while contributing to biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability.
Expected Results
- Women and youth develop stronger entrepreneurial and business management skills.
- Climate-smart agricultural practices are adopted by participating households, leading to improved productivity and resilience.
- Sustainable beekeeping enterprises are established and expanded, creating new income-generating opportunities.
- Local communities benefit from strengthened livelihoods, greater food security, and enhanced environmental stewardship.
ADRA’s Approach
The project adopts an integrated approach that combines economic empowerment, environmental conservation, and community participation. By equipping women and youth with practical skills, technical support, and access to sustainable livelihood opportunities, ADRA seeks to foster long-term resilience and inclusive local development.
Through collaboration with government authorities, technical services, local partners, and community leaders, the project contributes to building stronger, more resilient communities where women play a central role in driving positive change.
